Junior Curling Program
By Carl Lovett ...)
Glooscap Junior Curling has over 60 members actively participating in the program. The ages run from 7 to 16 years. Junior age eligibility is up to and including 19 years. Three age groups compete at the Provincial level: under 14, under 17, and under 20.
The Glooscap Junior Program takes place each Tuesday through Friday, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The Program is broken into two divisions, Tuesday for beginners/novices; and Wednesdays and Fridays for more experienced juniors. The two Divisions combine three or four times during the year for Bonspiels and special events. Teams that participate in Bonspiels and Provincial Competitions, are coached and practiced on weekends, using available ice time. Thursdays are utilized by local schools, as requested.
Some schools like Kentville Elementary, Aldershot and Evangeline Middle School come in for occasional curling, usually associated with the physical education program or a winter carnival. We appreciate the volunteer effort made by Glooscap curlers, without whom the junior program could not exist.
Experience is not necessary. There are qualified instructors present at all times. Instruction is on going through the season. There is no cost for equipment as brooms, sliders, etc. are available at the club. The cost of the program is $50 for the season (Nov. to Mar.). Curling is a wonderful game for all ages. Girls and boys can compete together, and smaller children can compete with bigger children. Size and weight are not a factor, skill and technique are major factors. Drop by Glooscap for a visit and check out the GREAT GAME OF CURLING.
